     ABSTRACT

This article examines the limitations of traditional economic analyses and proposes a multi-disciplinary model based on the social economy.  A discussion of social reconstruction and the role of the University is also presented.  One of the central themes addressed in this paper is the integration of the richness of social economics into the profession to strengthen the traditional model.  There is also a call for economics to move away from its abstractionist tendencies and back to concrete human realities, and to be based on an ethical foundation.
